Alex Lucas - NYIO percussion tutor

Alex joined the Nottingham Youth Intermediate Orchestra as percussion tutor in September 2012. A performing musician and drum teacher based in Nottinghamshire, he has played percussion for 21 years and has worked as a peripatetic music teacher since 2002.

After graduating, Alex began working for Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire county councils, teaching drums in secondary schools. He also worked as a part-time music lecturer at NCN before becoming self-employed. He currently works in 4 Nottinghamshire schools, teaching children aged from 5-18. He has an active role in orchestras, swing and concert bands as well as leading a samba band.

Before they disbanded, Alex spent a time playing snare drum with the Beeston and District Pipe Band. More recently he has worked for NCT (Music For Everyone) as a percussion tutor on their Bandwise courses as well as playing for Blow the Dust off and Voices performances at the Albert Hall and other wind band workshops organised by the charity.

As a performing musician Alex has toured the UK, Europe and America working with artists such as Paul Tucker (Lighthouse Family) and Steve Power (Robbie Williams' producer). He has also received extensive airplay on local and national radio and performed live sessions for the BBC, Capital FM, KCRW (US) and Channel 4.
