David Leeder

David LeederDavid Leeder is responsible for conducting the Training Orchestra.

David trained as a horn player in London before bringing his playing up to Nottinghamshire and embarking on his teaching career.  He has played with many of the orchestras in the East Midland and South Yorkshire areas; notably South Yorkshire Opera, East of England Orchestra (laterly called Viva), South Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra and was a founder member, and still is, principal horn with the Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra.

David was the horn tutor with the original Notts County Orchestra, accompanying it on it's many Continental and American tours and still maintains this interest as the brass tutor with the present County Band.  This is probably where his interest in conducting germinated, going through school groups, a Music Centre Orchestra to the present position in the Nottingham Youth Training Orchestra.

A child's membership in this orchestra he considers to be very important, as this is where the foundations of orchestral technique and etiquette are established, to be built upon as progress is made through the NYO system.

At the moment, David teaches in schools in Nottinghamshire as a member of the Arts Support Service and continues to enjoy his busy playing life.
