Vienna 2009

NYO Vienna 2009In 2009 the NYO were invited to Vienna where we played a Mozart Sinfonia Concertante in the Orangerie at Schonbrunn Palace - this was where Mozart and Salieri had their famous competition where they both composed works based on a theme given them by the Emperor. We played at the same end of the room as Mozart (Salieri's end is now the bar!) again to a packed audience. During our week in Vienna, we gave three concerts:

Saturday 25th July 2.15 - 3pm concert outside the Schonbrunn Palace on the gardens side

Monday 27th July - Klosterneuburg 5.30pm concert in the Abbey

Tuesday 28th July - Schonbrunn - concert in the Orangerie

Concert in Schonbrunn Orangerie

We also managed sight-seeing visits to Vienna, Schonbrunn, a boat trip on the Danube to Krems and a trip to Melk Abbey. Entrance was free to all concerts.

The Post Tour concert took place on Friday 31st July 2009 at St Mary’s Church, Lacemarket Nottingham at 7:30pm.

The program included:

Overture Poet and Peasant - Suppe
'Blumine' - Mahler
Sinfonia Concertante - Mozart
Cornish Dances - Malcolm Arnold
Symphony No.9 - Shostakovich
